A free medical health check up camp was organised by the Lifeline Foundation Trust in collaboration with HBS hospital on the occasion of Republic Day on 26th January 2018 from 9:30 am to 1 pm at National Academy Public School, Shampur.
The main objective of the camp was to bring affordable healthcare and free health information to the community and identify the common health problems of the community in order to prevent larger health expenditure by the poor.
A special team of Specialist Doctors, Consultants and Nurses volunteered their time and conducted free consultations and check-ups. Specialists from the fields of Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Physiotherapy attended to around 180 beneficiaries who came to the Health Camp.
In addition to this free Blood Pressure check, Blood Sugar level, BMI measurement was carried out on all the attendees to help identify hypertension, diabetes, anaemia and obesity. Patients were also offered free medicines (worth Rs 10,000) and could avail the follow-up check-ups for free in the next 7 days.
Furthermore, the medical camp provided opportunities to both medical and non-medical personnel to give back to the community by way of volunteering their time, energy and expertise. Over 30 men and women set aside their personal engagements and spent their holiday serving the needy in various capacities. It is because of a combined team effort that the medical camp was a success.
Total expenditure on the camp was Rs 23,000. This included medicines of Rs 10,000(charged at cost price by the hospital), handbills and pamphlets – Rs 4000, Food & refreshments – Rs 3,700, Tent, tables & chairs – Rs 1,750, Cleaning – Rs 1,000 and payment to local volunteers– Rs 1,600. The camp and activity is estimated to have saved at least Rs 22,000 in terms of expenditure by the beneficiaries, had they gone to a clinic or hospital for the check-up.
Lifeline intends to carry out such medical camps at least once a month in different areas in coordination with good community hospitals.
