Nov 2021 – “Lifeline for the Destitute” program helps set up livelihoods for 24 families spending Rs 2.01 lakhs in Q3

Lifeline continued its hallmark “Lifeline for the Destitute’‘ program to identify and support the most deprived families (widows, elderly, people with disabilities, extreme poverty etc.) and move them towards economic stability. Our team identifies such needy families and engages with them to ascertain an appropriate revenue generating trade that they can take up, and help make them earn incomes, which will, in turn, help these families to sustain themselves and set out a life of dignity.

In Q3, Lifeline has been able to support and set up livelihoods for 24 destitute families. A total amount of Rs. 2,00,782 has been spent on these cases. Two events were held on 1st November and 26th December to distribute the new equipment and merchandise.

In one case, a young mother of 4 children living in Begur, whose husband had abandoned her, had resorted to begging at the Bangalore city railway station. She was counseled to take up a dignified work, and now has a pushcart with snacks and condiments. The Lifeline team has identified a source for low-cost purchases and a location near her house to keep her pushcart and make sales.

In another case, a 49-year-old person who lost his job during Covid has to take care of his family consisting of his wife, 5 daughters and a handicapped son. Through the program, he was able to get a pushcart and initial fruits & vegetable stock for sale.

Another widow with dependent kids received stock of Banaras silk sarees to sell among her clientele. Another physically disabled youth is being set up with a street vending location with initial snacks & condiments to sell. Lifeline has also given tea flasks, supplies and bicycles to 4 beneficiaries to assist them in expanding/ starting a new livelihood as tea / coffee sellers. All beneficiaries also received a ration kit for immediate relief to their families.
