October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, An annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. Lifeline foundation started this campaign by organizing Breast Cancer Awareness talks in our various branches.

We invited Dr Shabnam Bashir, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, Apollo Hospitals, Bengaluru to our B E T branch to speak on the topic “Cancers, Are they Preventable?” on 13th October. We also invited Dr Sariya Mohammadi J, General Surgeon, Proctologist (MBBS, MS, fellowship in breast diseases) to our Rahmat Nagar Centre to speak on early detention and diagnosis of Breast Cancer on 22nd October. Our aim was to help those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support services. One of our top priorities was educating women on what they can do to be proactive with their breast health.

We also organised a Breast Cancer Screening Camp end of the month on 27th October at Northcare Medical Centre. We invited all women for a free awareness programme and consultation by a lady surgeon for all general surgical and breast related problems.  Breast health information was delivered, and clinical breast examinations (CBEs) were performed. When appropriate, ultrasound imaging, fine-needle aspirate (FNA) diagnoses, core biopsies, and onward referrals were provided by general surgeon-Dr. Sariya Mohammadi j General Surgeon, Proctologist (MBBS, MS, fellowship in breast diseases). A total of 30 Women were enrolled in the breast camp out of which two cases were identified for the immediate surgeries.
