March 2023 – Lifeline for the Destitute Uplifts 21 Families in Govindpur

We’re thrilled to share the success of our recent Destitute Drive #20 held on Sunday, March 19th, 2023, at Shams English School in Govindpur. This drive allowed us to support 21 families facing extreme hardship, bringing our total number of beneficiaries under the “Lifeline for the Destitute” program to a remarkable 220!

Our Destitute Program focuses on identifying and empowering the most vulnerable in our community – widows, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those struggling with extreme poverty. We work closely with them to find the most suitable income-generating opportunities and provide the resources they need to become economically independent.

This drive wouldn’t have been possible without the esteemed presence of Prof. Ashraf Ali (former Principal of Al Ameen College), Farrukh Kaiser, Parveen Basha from Bazm E Nisawan, and the Salam family from Lead Trust. Their support signifies the incredible spirit of collaboration within our community.

Empowering Families, One Start-Up at a Time

At the drive, we equipped 21 families with the tools and resources needed to launch their own businesses:

  • 16 Pushcarts: These mobile vendors, complete with weighing scales and stocked with fruits and vegetables, offer a flexible and readily available source of income.
  • 2 Petty Shop Setups: These permanent locations provide families with a space to establish their businesses and expand their customer base.
  • 2 Artificial Jewelry Making Materials: This allows beneficiaries to explore their creativity and generate income by crafting and selling beautiful jewelry.
  • 1 Sewing Machine: This valuable tool empowers a family to offer essential tailoring and clothing repair services in their community.

We understand the importance of immediate support during the initial stages of starting a business. Therefore, each venture received an investment of approximately ₹16,000 along with a one-month ration kit to meet their immediate needs. The average expenditure per family was around ₹15,000.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Supporters

We are incredibly grateful to our generous donors and well-wishers who make this life-changing program possible. Their contributions allow us to provide a hand up, not just a handout, to these deserving families.

247 Families and Counting…

With the success of Destitute Drive #20, the “Lifeline for the Destitute” initiative has now empowered a total of 247 families. Witnessing the smiles and renewed hope on the faces of our beneficiaries is the most rewarding aspect of our work. As the saying goes, “The most destitute person in the world is the one without a smile,” and we are dedicated to bringing back those smiles, one family at a time.
