May 2019 : Kidney Health Check-up benefiting 60 patients
Category : Health

Thanal, Kerala, in association with The Lifeline Foundation organised a free Kidney health check-up camp at the lifeline branch at Al-Azhar School, Goripalya on Saturday, 4th May 2019. Thanal is a brand name and is registered trust managed by Daya Rehabitation Trust which runs socially benevolent initiatives like Destitute homes for male and female, Dialysis Centres, Polyclinic, Schools for differently able, Pain and Palliative Care Centres, Physiotherapy Centre, etc which are offered out of charity for the welfare of the poor and underprivileged.

The camp started with the Urine Test called ACR. ACR stands for “albumin-to-creatinine ratio.”  Urine was tested for albumin, which is a type of protein. Having protein in the urine may mean that the kidneys are not filtering the blood well enough. This can be a sign of early kidney disease. If the previous test is positive, then a Blood Test was done to estimate the Creatinine level, which is a waste product from the muscle tissue. When the kidneys are damaged, they have trouble removing creatinine from the blood.

A total of 60 patient were tested in the afternoon session. 10 individuals who got positive results in both the tests were referred to HBS hospital and other specialist centres that deal with Kidney care/ dialysis for further assessment and treatment. We thank all the members of Thanal and Al-azhar school for the kind support. God bless you all.
